Journal entry 9/4/22 After serving at kids church, I grabbed one of the powdered donuts provided for volunteers, confident that it was filled with jelly. I didn’t have any real evidence, I just assumed it was based on past experiences with Krispy Kreme. When I got into my car I took two big bites. I was pretty hungry after being at church for two services. Anyhow, there was no jelly, and no sign of jelly, at which point I thought maybe I had been wrong in my assumption and selection of said donut. But I turned it around and discovered a tiny hole with a trace of jelly! This is when the Lord spoke and said “In this way, you cannot be quick to make assumptions about a thing because the way you look at it changes your perception. But in time it’s true nature will be revealed. What’s inside cannot be hidden forever.”
And the revelation continued to unfold. What the Lord was showing me was that I simply hadn’t reached the good stuff yet. It was there, even though it didn’t seem that way. If I had tossed that donut away, I would’ve always been left with the conclusion that it was a plain donut, when indeed, it was not plain, but full of jelly, albeit un-centered.
Friends, I implore you to dig deeper before tossing something or someone away. If you aren’t sure, that only means the fullness of the truth has not yet been revealed to you. Now don’t panic if you have acted prematurely; God can, and will use our hasty decisions for the good of all involved and all you need to do is this:
1) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, acknowledge Him in all your ways and he will direct your path (Provers 3:5-6). What is meant for you cannot pass you by if you follow this biblical instruction.
2) Be obedient to whatever God is telling you to do. Obey Him whether you understand or not. It’s that simple. Just do the next thing he tells you to do without thinking too far ahead.
3) Be persistent and frequent in prayer. Prayer is the way in which we communicate with God, you can’t obey him if you aren’t conversing with him frequently.
4) Do not take action unless you receive the peace that is accompanied with the will of God. The peace of God surpasses all understanding, and that should be your confirmation. Yes at times God will call us to things that cause us to feel scared or uncomfortable, but he commands us to be strong and courageous!
5) If you aren’t sure and don’t feel the peace of God, WAIT until you do. “But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer” Psalm 38:15.
